Fettes Active is an exciting joint initiative by Fettes Enterprises and Fettes College for 9- to 14-year-olds that offers five-day sports development camps throughout the summer holidays. What better way could there be for your child to develop their rugby skills than in the stunning surroundings of Fettes College?
at Its Best
Following on from the successful inaugural Rugby Development Camp in 2019, Fettes Active is delighted to offer another camp in 2021, from 9th to 13th August.
Better people make better players
Richard and his team are strong believers in teaching children the importance of humility, respect and sportsmanship within a team environment, so by the end of the week’s camp your child will not only have developed their core rugby skills but will also have learned the many strong values associated with sport.
Richard has played rugby for clubs in Scotland, England and Australia and is honoured to have represented Scotland in their 7s and Club International teams. Richard has a wide knowledge of a variety of sports both in coaching and playing and currently works as the Head of Boys’ Games at Fettes College Preparatory School. His previous role was as a Housemaster at St. Mary’s School, Melrose, where he started his teaching career. During this time he also played rugby for Melrose Rugby Club. Richard has a keen desire to see individual and team goals achieved through hard work, respect and working with humility. His positive attitude and huge enthusiasm create a fun and engaging camp environment, inspiring all his players to be the best that they can possibly be, both on and off the field.
Core Skill Development
At the very heart of our rugby camp, players will not only develop their technical skills but will learn the importance of teamwork, leadership, loyalty and sportsmanship. Technical skill development will include kicking, passing, running, tackling, vision, fitness, communication and game sense.
The camp runs from 9am to 3pm each day with drop off and registration available from 8:30am. The morning sessions are dedicated to functional rugby fitness and core technical skills followed by team games every afternoon. On Friday afternoon, there is a final tournament to showcase what the players have learnt throughout the week. The participants are taken to the Fettes College dining hall each day to enjoy a delicious, healthy three-course lunch. Each child also receives a complimentary Fettes Active t-shirt.
