Fettes Active is an exciting joint initiative by Fettes Enterprises and Fettes College for 9- to 14-year-olds that offers five-day sports development camps throughout the summer holidays. What better way could there be for your child to develop their netball skills than in the stunning surroundings of Fettes College?
at Its Best
Following on from the successful inaugural Rugby Development Camp in 2019, Fettes Active is delighted to offer a Netball Development Camp in 2021, from 16th to 20th August.
Trish and her team are strong believers in teaching children the importance of humility, respect and sportsmanship within a team environment, so by the end of the week’s camp your child will not only have developed their core rugby skills but will also have learned the many strong values associated with sport.
Head Coach Trish Wilcox
Born and raised in South Wales, Trish Wilcox lived over half her life in New Zealand and while coaching her three daughters’ netball teams, was encouraged to pursue a career in netball coaching. After working her way through the Netball New Zealand coaching levels and achieving the Level 3 award, she went on to successfully coach Auckland provisional age group teams who won a national title. Trish went on to coach the Samoa U21 team at the World Youth Netball Championship in Glasgow in 2013, achieving the highest placing by a Samoan U21 team at a World Youth Cup, which was followed by an opportunity to work with Cook Island Netball and coaching the national team for a Pacific Netball Series. A lifelong ambition of representing Wales, her country of birth, was realised shortly after, when Trish took over the reins coaching Wales at the Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia in 2015. During this campaign, Wales achieved 7th in the world, their highest ever placing at a World Cup and during her tenure moved up to 7th in the world rankings, their highest ever world ranking in the modern version of the game. She is the current Head of Netball at Fettes College and the current Head Coach at Edinburgh Academicals, who are the reigning Scottish Cup champions. Trish is passionate about sport and the important role it plays in the lives of young people on and off the court.
Core Skill Development
The camp is designed to be high energy and fun with lots of interaction including team challenges, micro skills sessions, balance and coordination and game play. Players’ confidence will grow throughout the week through the development and improvement of their core netball skills as well as receiving specialist instruction from high performance international coaches.
The camp runs from 9am to 3pm each day with drop off and registration available from 8:30am. The morning sessions are dedicated to ball skills, balance, coordination and core skills followed by tactical game play and a debrief every afternoon. On Friday afternoon, there is a match play tournament to showcase what the players have learnt throughout the week. Parents are very welcome to attend the tournament and prize giving on Friday 20th August from 1:30pm. The children are taken to the Fettes College dining hall each day to enjoy a delicious, healthy three-course lunch. Each child will also receive a complimentary Fettes Active t-shirt.
